I made a second version of the Bento tee. I used a striped thick cotton from my stash. This fabric feels so nice. I found it at a jobber and it feels exactly like those thick knit Mariniere shirts. Almost like a ponte knit. It’s perfect for spring.
I cut a size small but because this knit is very structured with no drape, I took in the sides about two inches. I left the shoulders and neckline alone. It is really a quick sew on my serger. I love the little detail of the cuffs. I have it a bit more dressed up here with my self drafted ponte skirt and leather espadrilles bought last year.
I want to make another version of this top in linen knit. I know it will look totally different in a drapey fabric.
I was just in J Crew today, shopping for my husband …… not me! I felt like this style goes with a lot of the clothes in there. I love J Crew and Liesl’s patterns definitely have that vibe, too. I’m going to be buying her Soho shorts pattern which is released today. They remind me of a pair of pleated floral shorts I bought in Barcelona a few years ago that I love but they are a little to tight. I haven’t found any others like them since, and I’m glad I have found a pattern for them.
Now that it’s spring and getting warm, I am really inspired about sewing. Spring sewing is much easier than winter sewing!
The tee looks great. A staple that will be worn again and again I am sure.
Thanks Jenya. It’s really simple but something that will look very different depending on the fabric used. My next version will be a slinky rayon knit.
Very nice — and great striping matching, too 🙂
Love the end of the sleeves! So cute!
I love this Bento tee with the details in the cuffs! Especially the way you’ve paired it with your ponte skirt. I’m a big fan of stripes! Love this outfit combination, Justine!! 🙂 🙂
Thank you Justine! Have a great weekend!
Love the sleeve cuffs. I’m a sucker for all things striped in a tee. The combo with the skirt is a fun look. The tee will go with all kinds of things – a versatile design. I like that fabric a lot.
Thanks You! this fabric was a lucky find . Only a dollar a yard!
