Ojai Wrap Debut at Sewing Rabbitt Pattern member Site

Ojai Wrap Pattern Justine Marie Patterns

After a lot of fiddling and adjusting, I think I have achieved the right fit for my Ojai wrap.

This pattern was based on a popular tutorial I wrote. But I felt the wrap from the tutorial was a bit boxy, and not as flattering  as it could be, to be honest, so I wanted to make it to perfect it  and also create it in multiple sizes. While tutorials are great, sometimes they are a bit too general for some people. They give you an idea on how to make something but can be short on specifics and details.

Voila, The Ojai Wrap. Which is debuting today at The Sewing Rabbit Pattern Membership site, a cool website Jessica from The Sewing Rabbitt cooked up where for ten dollars a month, members can download three new patterns monthly, sew in a virtual sewing bee together, and have access to lots of  support and tutorials to make the patterns. Add exclusive discounts to online fabric stores each month and you have a pretty great deal!

Ojai is a pretty Spanish style town about 30 minutes up the mountain from my house. It’s a lovely Southern California mountain valley and popular weekend getaway for people in the know and celebrities. You can hike, take yoga, have a gourmet organic meal, go to the Framer’s Market, ride horses, or go to one of Ojai’s famous spas. It’s very laid back and so I named my little sweater after it.ojaipink2

The pattern does have  cutting lines on it to adjust for height. Izzy is 5′ 2 so this version I made for myself, I’m 5’6, is maybe just a little long on her. But she loves it. It could be about 2 inches shorter to fit her height perfectly. I made this wrap out of some very lightweight wool knit I’ve had for a few years. I had exactly the right amount to make my sweater, 2 yards. I think this sweater will end up in my daughter’s closet! She’s already “claimed” it. I’m SO glad we don’t wear the same size shoes! It took about 45 minutes including cutting, and I sewed it completely on my serger.

ojaiwrapink3I love those fringe boots by UGG.

And here is another version I made a friend and which Lily’s friend also “adopted”. For the weekend at least! This wrap was in a size medium so it’s a little big on S but she loved it anyway. I think I’ll make her one. too.

Hey Justine, I am now a Sewing Rabbit member and this being one of this months patterns I plan to sew it up first. I found a Tan Suede type fabric with lots of Indian symbols on it that I plan to use to make it. I was probably overlooking it but I didn’t see on the pattern how many yards it took so I just bought 2 yards, glad I have enough.
