McCall’s 6996 Shawl Collar knit cardigans

nordicsweater2I bought a McCall’s pattern on sale for $ 1.50 and used some inexpensive print fabric to check the fit. A wearable muslin. The sleeves are too long and the shoulders a bit too wide, but with an adjustment the fit will be good. I sewed a size 10.  I don’t think I’ll make another. It’s just not really me. Maybe the color? I don’t know. Maybe if I had a really chunky sweater knit ??….. I used McCall’s 6996, view D,  and it’s sewn in a mystery Nordic style double knit,  synthetic feeling, sort of itchy, from Micheal Levine loft. Fabric cost: about a dollar. Bringing this sweater cost to about three dollars to make.  McCalls-M6996-SZ-L-XXL-UCNnordicsweater3This is a quick and easy project. It’s great for beginners and the look is similar to lots of things in the shops.

This type of cardigan has been in a style for awhile. You can find similar versions from Wal Mart to Ralph Lauren. A  wardrobe basic for winter.

This and the cashmere one from Sierra Trading post are the same shape as the other two, but you see the difference amazing fabric makes. If I could only find fabric like this! I’m keeping my eye out for an ethnic print wool blanket I can repurpose.

Here is another similar sewing pattern to if you are into PDF patterns. The Oslo by Colette…oslo-03

Cute! That girl has gorgeous skin.

Great review Justine! I do like the print of the fabric you used. Looks really nice paired with the top underneath.

I like the pop of color, it looks really good on you. I know what you mean though, it is all about the fit and the fabric. I do the same thing, try out a patten in inexpensive fabic then decide if I like the design and style enough to make more. Thanks for sharing.
