Easy child’s robe tutorial from a thrifted sweater

Cashmere robes are known as being expensive and luxurious.
And a toddler cashmere robe?
Why that sounds positively decadent! I can imagine Suri Cruise wearing one. But fear not, you too can own one by making one from a thrifted sweater and if you buy your sweater on sale at the thrift shop like I did, it will cost you about two dollars!
Making her own bagel!
Not in the best mood… my goodness, that child needs some slippers too!

This project started out as a refashioned sweater project for myself but it was a total disaster. I wasn’t ready to give up on it yet, since I had invested so much blood, sweat, and tears into the project after taking it apart two times! But it just wasn’t going to work for me.
This old farmhouse is terribly cold in the morning so I threw the sweater on to Gigi one morning to keep her warm.
“This would make a perfect robe for her…” I thought. So I rushed the sweater to the machine, hemmed the sleeves, and wrapped it with a little belt and it was perfect!
Here is how I made it.
I started with a turtleneck sweater. It had unfinished looking edges.

I cut it up the middle. I can see now all my problems started because I cut off the collar..

Then I sewed bias trim onto the edges to complete it.I don’t have photos for the bias trim sewing part so you will have to figure out that part.I hemmed the sleeves and added a little elastic around the neck so it fit Gigi better.
I had a little tie in my closet that looked like it matched the trim but you could make a nice robe tie from leftover parts of the sweater.
Easy peasy!
